Howdy!

My name is Donnie Meals and I live in South Texas and this is my site.  It’s more of a place where I can play with writing, post my videos and remind me of stuff due to my crappy memory.  It’s not age related.  I’ve pretty much always had a bad memory.   I’d tell you how long I’ve had a bad memory but I don’t remember.

Who am I?  I’m a multimedia artist, a sloppy welder, pretty good at batik and I write a decent love letter.  I’m restless and like to take on things I know little or nothing about. I’ve worked many years in radio, own a recording studio, produce a variety of music projects, shoot and edit documentaries and music videos, and all the while I am an Assistant Professor of Radio, Television and Film studies at San Antonio College.

I have a cool wife named Sharon Crawford.  She never ceases to impress and amaze me.  I don’t deserve her but hey, lucky me.   Together we travel throughout Mexico, mostly in parts unknown to most tourists, discovering, exploring and making new friends.  Sharon is also an inseparable part of my documentaries.

As for our home, we have turned it into an ongoing art project.  Or, it’s a vessel to hold all the other artsy stuff we put out.  I’ll have a link to that soon.

You are most welcome to look around in here.  Leave a comment if you wish.  Steal an idea.  Don’t stop living like it’s all a really cool dream.

What’s on this site?

  • The Blog – stories about traveling in Mexico. But there’s also other places.
  • Meals – It’s in the Name – Interesting and accidental culinary delights.
  • El Corrido – a link to my feature length documentary that won a number of awards and is evidently popular.  I wouldn’t know because I’ve seen it so many times.  But check it out if you get the time. Goes great with chips and beer.
  • Ubuntu – a short documentary that I shot in South Africa with my daughter Lauren Drake.
  • El Mercado al la Carte – This is the freak show portion of the site. Once you visit you’ll understand.
