Day 8 7\/5\/12
Let\u2019s see if we can piece together today\u2019s events. Peaceful morning, walking the beach looking for sea glass and occasionally languishing in an inflatable while being lulled into a mild coma by the surf. Once back up to the condo, Cecillio and his girlfriend, Esmerelda \u201cLa Diabla\u201d (his words, not mine) were waiting for us.\u00a0It\u2019s Thursday and that means \u201cPozole and a Show\u201d.\u00a0 Evidently, this is a tradition in this area and it’s always on a Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We all hopped into my little rental and ventured off to the little town of Tres Palos and found La Lomita, a massive palapa covered party place.\u00a0 We all had the pozole, (chicken and hominy soup with peppers, pigskin and who-knows-what thrown in). It all went well when combined with Mescal.\u00a0Once the mescal kicked in, we started the dancing in our \u201cgringo fashion\u201d and all danced for a solid 3 hours to non-stop tropical, drum machine driven music.\u00a0 Well, non-stop except for mescal refills.\u00a0 During our dance fever the place proceeded to really get packed.\u00a0 Thursday afternoon and it appears no one is working for miles around. (?)\u00a0 At 5 the show cranked up, spewing out a fountain of cross-dressers, Cher impersonators and one \u201cI think I danced with that guy earlier\u201d moment.\u00a0 Oh, the pictures.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under Cecillio\u2019s guidance, we swerved back into town, killed the last of the tequila and were entertained by Esmerelda and Sharon\u2019s command of each others foreign language skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 9 7\/6\/12
Exciting local bus ride down to the old fort \u201cFuerte San Diego<\/a>\u201c, a star shaped garrison that we explored all by ourselves.\u00a0 Plenty of the requisite cannons, a moat, draw bridge and beautiful views of the bay.\u00a0Then waltzed across the street and down the hill to give one of my first documentary DVDs to a fellow that gave me a great interview 3-4 years ago.\u00a0 He wasn\u2019t there today so we went further down the hill and happened upon the Zocalo for refreshments.\u00a0 Again, caught a local bus to head back to the condo.\u00a0 But this bus was fully airbrushed inside and out with some sort of \u201cTransformers\u201d theme and distorted electronica music a-blairing.\u00a0He also took the creative route to our pre-stop destination of the Mexican Walmart.\u00a0 Back at the condo it\u2019s nappy time.\u00a0 At some point Cecillio tapped on the door.\u00a0 Sharon was still in sleep mode so Cecillio and Donnie went for \u201cGet it all over ya\u201d fish soup on the street.\u00a0 Tasty.\u00a0 Then off to a barrio in Old Acapulco (no gringos here) and a dirty little cantina.\u00a0 Fill in the blanks and toss in blairing mariachis.\u00a0 The rest is blurry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 10 7\/7\/12
Cecillio got to the condo early and we took off for a day trip to Taxco.\u00a0Had a yummy breakfast of chorizo & eggs, pollo barbacoa and a pig backbone soup in Zumpango, just outside of Chilpancingo. A couple of hours later, we were in the eye-of-the-storm of Taxco.\u00a0 Pedestrians, vendors and Volkswagens; thousands of each all sharing the same space at a 45 degree angle atop the mountains.\u00a0 Cecillio drove this part, thank God.\u00a0 Grubby town but quite fun and The Ultimate Exquisite Cathedral in the Zocalo.\u00a0Impressive. We proceeded to camp out at an adjoining cafe on the roof top.\u00a0Cecillio met some business associates there and He and Sharon perused pounds of silver jewelry for Cecillio to sell in the U.S.\u00a0 There were plenty of sights from the roof top. You\u2019ll just have to wait for the details when we get pictures out.\u00a0 We left town at 6, got back to the condo at 10 and were asleep by 10:01.<\/p>\n
