Hey, it\u2019s been a while but we have settled in in Acapulco.  Here\u2019s a brief rundown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

July 9.  Breakfast al fresco.  Grocery shopping for the week via \u201ccollectivo\u201d.  Get off the bus and \u201cpoof\u201d, my friend Cecillio appears, literally.  He has a nack for that.  Walk the strip at night and watched bungee jumpers as we sipped cocktails.  Major storm blowing in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

July 10.  A bucket of water from the rain appeared under the bed.  Evidently came through the electrical socket.  Set up a fan to dry  our sheets and headed to La Quebrada to watch the cliff divers. Then drove through the opposite side of Acapulco to a beach called Bonfiel.  There Shawn made a valiant attempt at surfing. Pero, no bueno.  Not all was lost as we discovered there will be a surfing competition this weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

July 11.  Catch a local \u201ccollectivo\u201d and introduced Shawn to the municipal market.  Had some great pollo con mole.  Bussed back after a few hours and got very blurry out by the pool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

July 12.  Headed northwest to Pie de la Cuesta, about 30 miles to BIG waves and few people.  Super calm for the soul. And\u2026 \u201cpoof\u201d, Cecillio appears.  He has some sort of special powers. A few hours there and we\u2019re off to Cecillios for puerco verde and fresh fish filet.  On the way a local policeman decided to hassle us.  I supposedly ran a nonexistent red light.  We managed to confuse him enough that we evaded apprehension.  I\u2019ll spare you the details.  However, dinner at Cecillios was excellent.  Night swim.  Night cap.  Nighty night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

July 13.  Took an extensive bus ride to the zocalo and acted like tourists.  I bought a new rain stick for the studio while Shawn was being hustled for an $80 chess set that was worth about $10.  He didn\u2019t bite so all is well.  That evening Sharon sent us off with Cecillio to a \u201cconcert\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s where it gets a bit weird\u2026 for a couple of days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s Cecillio, Shawn and me.  We stop for a bag of cervesas and head to the \u201cconcerto\u201d.  The info given to Cecillio was sketchy at best.  As it ends up, the three of us walk in, very late, to an end of school, junior high band concert\u2026 with a bag of beer.  Yeah, we kind of stood out from the crowd. One song later and it\u2019s the end of the show.  Then Cecillio enters what we collectively come to call \u201cshark mode\u201d.  Basically, Cecillio befriends a little French horn player\u2019s mom and before you know it, the four of us are at a very loud rock bar.  Cecillio; always looking out for his friends.  This time it was Shawn.  Her name was Sylvia, in the long white dress.  I\u2019m not too sure what time the evening came to a close.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

July 14.  We weren\u2019t hungover.  Promise.  But we didn\u2019t do crap till Cecillio showed up around 3pm.  It\u2019s Thursday and in Acapulco that means Pozole and a show.   Pozole: pork, white corn, chiles, chicharon  and\u2026 whatever, in a soup and rounds of beer and mescal.  All this to prep you for \u201cthe show\u201d.  Tropical music, a Vincente Fernandez impersonator and a number of drag queens\u2026 the show.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a fun night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
