Hey\u2026\nWhat a day.
\nI\u2019ve seized control of the laptop back from Sharon. It\u2019s Monday. No Friends with benefits today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m writing this a bit early because there\u2019s not much else to do. That\u2019s due to the fact that we\u2019re in the middle of a tropical storm. But we were prepared; a nice unopened 750ml bottle of El Jimador.  Suddenly we\u2019re the \u201cMost Interesting Couple in the World\u201d. The \u201c\u201dHostel\u201d is not \u201cHostile\u201d anymore, as Sharon stated last night.

Speaking of\u2026 Did anyone see the moon last night? BEAUTIFUL from here on the roof top and light dancing off the mountain sides and some lone (possibly drunk) hombre playing guitar and singing about 100 feet from our room. Fabuloso\u2026and Sharon slept through it. I dragged El Jimador\u2019s sister up to the roof and had a fiesta, Mano y mano.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First thing this morning we headed to the Museum of Indigenous Mayan Medicine. We waited quite a while to attempt an interview with a shaman. After a 30 minute wait or so we realized that there was an undefined line of\u00a0others\u00a0waiting to see him. They however were armed with herbs and eggs and other tools of the art. Then the general proprietor started talking to us and pointed out that we needed the permission of the \u201cpresident\u201d of the museum, who in turn would ask him to ask the shaman if it was\u00a0ok. (?) There is a\u00a0bureaucratic\u00a0order, even in Mayan culture. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eventually we met this stubby little man in a wife beater T and what looked like Sketcher tennis shoes. The wardrobe was\u00a0deceiving. Instead of an interview he began an actual ceremony with the next person with their own set of problems.\u00a0 Mayan chanting while in a trance; dozens of candles on the floor maintained by the one seeking help. Then he proceeds to pull power from the statues of various saints the turns and whips her with a hand full of herbs. Everything stops as he rushes to crack open an egg into a glass of water. He reads it and\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oh, I don\u2019t want to ruin the ending. Let’s just say no animals were harmed, but that egg will never be the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After this we took another trip to the market to catch some more chicken action. We walked further to an old cathedral where, lo and behold there was another shaman in a side room doing his thing. See the movie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So. Last night we got this bright idea to change or flight plans. Let\u2019s go to Mexico City for a day and, well, do what we\u2019re doing here. Cool, huh? So after all the\u00a0preceding\u00a0stuff you read about we took off back to the\u00a0Tuxla\u00a0GutierrezAirport. This time we took the \u201cCuota\u201c, (toll road). All we wanted to do is\u00a0change\u00a0our Sunday flight to Mexico City to a Saturday flight. No big deal, huh? 45 minutes later the lovely attendant\u00a0informs\u00a0us that, \u201cSure. That\u00a0will be $260.00EACH\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was cheaper to just buy new tickets.\u00a0\u00a0We fly to Mexico City on Sunday.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We took the free road once again back to San Cristobal. A lovely and relaxing cruise. Now the rain is finally subsiding. We\u2019re off to find dinner. Thanks for sitting out this storm with us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
