Day 5 7/2/12
Oh, yeah… we were in Cuernavaca.  Last night, outside our window, we heard a sultry saxophone playing rico swave jazz.  That’s where we headed for fresh brewed coffee and a very nice breakfast this morning.  Kind of drippy wet place, (in a nice way), plants, fountains, and no Sanka.

Great start for the morning.  After a meer 2 wrong turns, we were out of Cuernavaca and off to Acapulco.  It’s 3 hours of good, fast Federal (toll) highway.  Massive bridges over deep DEEP gorges.  Tunnels, mountains, clouds that you drive through, etc. Seconds into Acapulco, BOOM. Traffic. 1 km per hour. A sweaty kilometer or two and we’re into the heart of the sun and zipping along to the condo.  4th floor, on the ocean and uber-convenient to everything. Thank you Cecillio, my long time local friend.  We took a quick walk to the Soriana and stocked the kitchen (and bar).  Cecillio met up with us around 3 pm.  We had the obligatory tequila or 5. Then made Sharon’s pasta carbonara dinner, a perfect compliment to the day.

Day 6 7/3/12
As per our commitment to each other, we search out as many mercados as we can find.  Acapulco is no disappointment.  We rode the peoples bus through streets most Americans would not travel (notice we rode the bus, driving the rental will be on hold for a while) only to be delivered into the bustling mega “Oh my! Did you see/smell that?”  The market is probably the size of 10 or 12 soccer fields. It is filled with everything you could imagine. Clothes, utility items, live chickens, goats, pigs, ready to be cooked fish, shrimp, goats, cows, pigs, (no refrigeration) flowers, small children for rent and pigeons?…Oh, don’t forget the weird stuff.  Potions, candles and other bad juju protection stuff.

Did I mention goats and pigeons?

After a few hours of this it was off to the the central square. This area is beautiful. It is across the street from the Yacht Club and covered by huge Ceiba trees with a small modern cathedral. Ahh, cervesa time again. After a short pause we reverted this time to the air conditioned bus. For 10 cents more it’s well worth it. Back to the condo to meet Cecillio and while he siestas we go play in the ocean. Fantastic. Wow, we’re hungry. Cecellio takes us to a small street corner where we stop, take our own beers and have one of the best $3.00 meals of our lives. Fresh tortillas, pork, steak, rice, beans and a kick butt spicy red sauce. Yum.

Day 7 7/4/12
Seeing as there were no American Independence Day celebrations, we took off early to Pie de la Cuesta.  This is a close by peninsula with zero gringos, tourists or, for the most part, anybody.  A desolate stretch of course sand, BIG crashing waves, weathered palapas for shade, hammocks and cold cervesas.  This is a great place to decompress and to get sand in some very interesting places.  Here, you don’t swim.  You just get as deep as you dare and let the ocean take over.  Fun for hours.  We’ve been here a number of times so we didn’t come close to getting lost, (knock on wood).  The scenery (between piles of junk) is fabuloso.  The ocean has made some beautiful, spectacular cut-out inlets. After about 5 hours, we ventured back to remove the a fore-mentioned sand, type this blog, and then off to buy veggies for tonight’s home cooked dinner.
